Another New Beginning

Rewind to 2013.  As many of you know, about two years ago (almost exactly), we began our kitchen renovation. We did most of the work ourselves, and the things that we did hire out we were sure grateful that we did. It took a little over 7 weeks from start to finish for that reno. Some days I stand in my kitchen and try to remember what it looked like before and can’t. It’s just so open and bright, warm and freeing. It’s one of those things that I’m happy that we just went for and did (even though I’m sure the money could have been spent better elsewhere).  My favorite parts of that kitchen have to be opening it up, the island and the wood planked wall around the window.

With my kitchen, its hard to pick favorites because every part of it is exactly us, exactly how we live, and exactly perfect for our family. We live in our kitchen. Its a place to sneak snacks, a playroom, a craft room, gaming station, a basketball court, a school room and the heart of our family. It’s where at the present time, that I make my cakes.

Now, fast forward two years later and we are doing a kitchen all over again. This time, downstairs and just for me and my cakes {squeal}.

In October, I got approved by the city to put a commercial kitchen in my basement. I had hoped to start tearing things out and getting a move on the kitchen right away but life got in the way. But now we are full throttle, pushing forward on this thing.

We’ve had the electrician and plumber both in to check things out. They are both going to start their work soon and now that things are actually progressing, I feel like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders and I can finally start sharing the excitement with you all.

We are hoping to do this reno on low budget. With Jason in school and me working half time, we don’t have a lot of wiggle room on this one. So we’re going to see what we can do with what we have. It should be fun!

I know many of you enjoyed following along on our first kitchen reno, so I hope that you will enjoy following along for our second.
